Two legends converge: A TMNT and MOTU prototype surfaces, sparking intrigue at the New York Toy Fair.
Grab your pizza and Power Sword! The action figure mashup of our dreams has been spotted at this year's New York Toy Fair! The "Turtles of Grayskull" action figures, a crossover between Masters Of The Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Mattel, are actually happening.
A teaser image from @preterniadotcom on x.com (previously Twitter) gave us our first glimpse of a Leonardo-MOTU hybrid. This isn't just any Leonardo; it's a blend of turtle and Eternian legend, creating a buzz amongst fans of both franchises.
But where did this idea originate? Rumours of this exciting new toy line first surfaced back in May, thanks to information from the Facebook page adultcollector.org. Mattel, the toy giant behind this line, issued "call orders" to retailers. These are essentially pre-order requests, allowing listed stores to place their orders for the new products.
The line's first wave is set for Spring 2024, with the second in Q2 2024. The single-carded figures, like the Leonardo prototype, mirror Mattel's MOTU Origins style. They'll likely fit with the MOTU line for mix-and-match play, similar to how Origins figures match with Mattel's WWE sets.
The reported planned figures are:
Wave | Figure | Release Date |
---|---|---|
Wave 1 | Donatello (MOTU style) | Spring 2024 |
Wave 1 | Leonardo (MOTU style) | Spring 2024 |
Wave 2 | Michelangelo (MOTU style) | Q2 2024 |
Wave 2 | Raphael (MOTU style) | Q2 2024 |
This TMNT MOTU mash-up is based on a comic book mini-series that, unfortunately, never saw the light of day. Maybe with the figures on course to be released, the comic book series may just be revived.
The "Turtles of Grayskull" of course isn't the first crossover adventure for our beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In the most recent crossover turtles teamed up with the kids from Hawkins in a TMNT and Stranger Things comic series. This collaboration, a brainchild of IDW Publishing and Dark Horse Comics, saw the turtles navigating both the streets of New York and the eerie Upside Down of Stranger Things.
With such a history of Mattel blending worlds, the turtles and MOTU finally come together...and we can't wait!
