The Ultimate Guide To Funko Bob Ross NFTs
Funko is bringing the The Joy of Painting legend Bob Ross to their NFT collection.
Bob Ross NFTs drop December 21st, at 2pm ET.
This NFT drop does spark some controversy with a recent Netflix documentary painting an unsavoury battle for the rights to his image, with his family cut off against the painters dying wishes.
It's a complex, murky legal argument that is in stark contrast to the joyful spirit Bob embodied. Of course, there are two side to this sorry tale and it's important to weigh all arguments to draw your own conclusion.
Now here we are, maybe after a series of happy accidents as Bob would say, with a Bob Ross Funko NFT collection complete with redeemable physicals.
In the true spirit of being free to make our own choices, here are all the details to get involved with the Bob Ross NFT collection:
1. Getting Started: Droppp Wallet
You will need to sign-up for a Funko Droppp wallet.
This wallet allows you to house your Funko NFT collections, open Funko packs and redeem physical rewards.
We have a complete guide on the Droppp account, so you can learn to register for a free or paid account, open packs, redeem physicals and more:
TokenHead App
It's also worthwhile installing the TokenHead app (owned by Funko) which is excellent for viewing and sorting your NFTs.
Here is an awesome guide on how to install and use this app:
2. How To Buy Bob Ross NFTS
At launch, on December 21, you can queue up to purchase packs direct during the drop ($120 transaction limit).
The queue is randomised once the drop goes live and quantities are limited, so there is no guarantee you will grab a pack on launch day.
Two packs will be available to buy - a Standard ($9.99) and a Premium ($29.99) option.
Pack | Amount Released | No. of NFTs | Launch Price | Launch Date |
---|---|---|---|---|
Standard Pack | 24,000 | 5 | $9.99 | 21/12/2021 |
Premium Pack | 8,000 | 15 | $29.99 | 21/12/2021 |
This drop is 12k standard packs and 4k premium packs less than the recent Funko Star Trek NFT collection. That collection was too big in my opinion, so it's good to see the numbers come down for Bob Ross.
Both the standard pack and premium packs are functionally identical aside from the number of NFTs found inside.
Buying on the Secondary Market
It's usual for launch day packs to sell quickly and for many the secondary market will be where most purchases are made.
Secondary pack prices have been reasonable, but it depends on the Funko drop. Most drops have settled close to the retail price which is great for Funko fans!
WAX Cloud Wallet
To buy from the secondary market, you will need a WAX cloud wallet.
Droppp and WAX Cloud are two completely separate NFT wallets, but it is possible to transfer your Funko NFTs between them.
AtomicHub
When we talk about the secondary market, we mean a peer-to-peer marketplace such as the AtomicHub.
You will also need to buy WAXP coins to purchase from the AtomicHub. Lucky for you, we have a guide for that too!
3. Bob Ross Collection & Rarities
Bob's happy little NFTs bring the joyful painter to life in the form of an NFT Pop! and Soda. It also has his Happy Brush and Happy Tree alongside Max TokenHead and Funko's mascot Freddy.
NFT Rarity Type | No of Templates | % Odds Of Unpacking | Total Circulation | Per Unique Template |
---|---|---|---|---|
Common | 17 | 46.58% | 111,801 | 6,577/6,576 |
Uncommon | 12 | 30% | 72,000 | 6,000 |
Rare | 8 | 16% | 38,400 | 4,800 |
Epic | 4 | 6% | 14,400 | 3,600 |
Legendary | 2 | 1% | 2,400 | 1,200 |
Grail | 1 | 0.42% | 999 | 999 |
1 of 1 | 6 | 0.0375% | 6 | 1 |
Series Coin | 1 | 30% | 3,200 | 3,200 |
The smaller circulation improves the odds over the Star Trek drop, which is definitely a good thing. There is also now a 30% chance of hitting a series coin, compared to 10% in the previous drop.
Although not confirmed, it has been hinted that collecting these coins across each drop will be used for something in the future, so it's worth getting your hands on them.
Statistics
Ever wondered how many Bob Ross NFT packs have been opened, the number of Legendary or Grail NFTs still to be found or the top account holders of each redeemable pop?
Now you can with the excellent PopInStock tracker (check out his redeemable valuation blog posts too)!
4. Mastery & Physical Redemption
There are a total of 4 Bob Ross physical Funko Pops! to collect.
Three of these can be claimed by collecting the Grail (limited to 999) and two legendary (limited to 1,200 each) NFTS.
Each Grail and Legendary NFT will entitle the lucky holder to a physical collectible once redemption tokens are distributed (120 days after the drop).
Hold the Legendary or Grail NFTs in your WAX Cloud or Droppp wallet and on April 20 2022, you will receive a redemption coin which will be redeemable for 30 days for the physical Funko!
You can read about all the important physical redemption dates and guides across all Funko NFTs drops to date.
All redemption dates for all Funko NFT sets can be found here:
Royalty Collection
The Royalty collection reward is claimed when you complete the entire NFT set (excluding legendary, Grail, Series Coin and 1-of-1).
In simple terms, if you collect one of each Common, Uncommon, Rare and Epic variant from the set (41 NFTs in total), you'll have completed the Royalty Collection and will be eligible to receive an exclusive Freddy Funko Pop! (above) when redemption coins are distributed on April 20 2022.
